Mission & Purpose
The University Development Team (UDT) at Clemson University seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy that supports and enhances “Clemson Forever” and the mission of the Development and Alumni Relations Team.
The Development and Alumni Relations Team identifies, cultivates
and stewards relationships that result in increased long-term
engagement and philanthropic support for Clemson University.
The work of this dynamic team of development professionals is to inspire philanthropic giving throughout the University community including alumni, parents and friends. The University Development Team is comprised of high-functioning, collaborative, fundraising teams.
Specifically these teams:
- Provides key leadership to the colleges, schools and units throughout the academy.
- Works collaboratively with vice presidents, the provost, deans, university administrators, senior management, and volunteers to create and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies in support of the priorities for each of the colleges, schools and units; and works to set the overall strategic direction of fundraising efforts.
- Establishes and monitors fundraising goals in each college, school and unit to increase the effectiveness of development activities and ensure metrics and performance expectations are met.
- Individually, development officers manage portfolios of major, planned and principal gift prospects where the team adheres to the D.A.D. principles (D= Donors Visited, A=Asks Made, D=Dollars Closed). - Develop, implement and maintain the comprehensive stewardship strategy for the colleges, schools and units that express the return on investment and gratitude for philanthropic gifts.
- Motivate, train and mentor development officers and academic partners to maximize the University’s philanthropic opportunity through our talent management efforts.

The University Development Team is structured with two goals in mind:

Goal 1: Support the Academy’s administrators and leaders in developing and executing a comprehensive development plan that maximizes the resources available to the academy through their UDT Team and resources throughout the Development & Alumni Relations team – including Corporate and Foundation Relations, Principal and Planned Giving, Advancement Services, Donor Relations, Alumni Association, Prospect Research, Marketing & Events, the CU Foundation, and Annual Giving.
